It's hard to believe that the Dana School of Music was founded almost 150 years ago and is one of the oldest music schools in the United States. We have 28 full-time and an equal number of part-time faculty, all of whom seek to maintain our very long tradition of conservatory-style music training. This means that everyone plays; no half-hour lessons for education majors here. Trumpet students have many performance opportunities, from symphony orchestra to concert bands, from jazz bands and jazz combos to brass chamber ensembles and new music groups. And there are many degree options too: music performance, composition, recording technology, jazz studies, education, music history and music theory.
At YSU, our school is one of four academic units that comprise the College of Fine and Performing Arts including Art, Theater and Dance, and Communications. Housed in Bliss Hall, you'll find practice rooms, faculty studios, classrooms, rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, and a recital hall for solo and chamber performances. Our large ensembles perform off campus in historic Stambaugh Auditorium and also at the De Yor Center for the Performing Arts.
